| Scott, my guess on the rubber sorround method is that in making cars lighter the roof structure has been weakened necessitating the glued glass as addtional structure. The fact remains that some injury to the car paint in the glass contact area is unavoidable when using the vibrating spatula or the angled blade methods. The wire (flat or round) seems less injurios, although looking at my DD (a Huyndai Elantra) the A-pillar covers as well as the headliner and dashboard are making contact with glass. The wire method may not damage the crimp channel but it will rub against the inner parts. Placing a thin flat piece of sheet metal (a spatula) between the wire and the "upholstery" would protect those surfaces. It almost seems like car designs these days are just not meant to be repaired.
